How I Found My Blog Topic

This month I have be frantically searching for a blog topic. Indecision about what would fulfill me to most to write about was the probably the hardest thing I’ve decided in my life. I wanted a blog that would prosper and keep my readers entertained. I also wanted something that I could enjoy writing about and not get bored with.

At first, I was making a blog for all the wrong reasons. I recently heard that it was the latest money-making craze and thought, how hard could it be? I would just throw together some random hot keywords and spin it into an enticing piece of literature. I did that once, harder than I thought. I went to write the second article and stared at the blank screen for hours. I had already written all I wanted to say about the boring keyword niche that I had picked out in the first article, I couldn’t think of one more sentence to write about it, not one.

It’s obvious to me now, I was definitely going about this in the wrong way. I didn’t want to write about “real writing jobs online” I just wanted to write about something interesting. I scrapped that article fast.

This time I’m trying a different approach. I stopped focusing on making money. I forgot everything I was exposed to about popular keyword niches and ad writing and blogging to make money. I am focusing on what I really want to write about, what I could write about for hours, what would fulfill me the most.

I’ve always heard that it’s best to pick a topic that you are interested in, perhaps a sport you play, crafts you do, or recipes you made. But I don’t play any sports or make any food, my life was, well, pretty much boring. When I’m not working at my dead end job, I am sleeping, doing laundry, looking in the mirror for wrinkles, or watching TV. Not that exciting.

It was a challenge but I finally picked up on this whole blog making idea. The fact is, it is MY blog. So I can do WHATEVER I WANT with it. I was trained to believe that blogs had to target one particular niche and you had to stay on that topic, never straying, constantly creating articles about it. But, not true.
The fact is, my blog is exactly that, MINE. So I can do with it whatever I wish.

If I want to write about sleep, laundry, and looking in the mirror, I can. It may not be that exciting, it may not get many readers, or be ranked number one in search engines, but that’s the beautiful thing about it…I DON’T CARE!!

Figuring out this knowledge led me to imagine everything I did or said as an article. As I heated up a frozen dinner, I thought, how can this be an article? I begin to ask myself questions.

How healthy is this frozen dinner? Is it typical for a poor college student like me to be heating up a frozen dinner? What does college student health look like in general? I thought about my freshman dorm days where Ramen noodles heated up in the microwave was dinner (Yes, I at least made a little progress huh?).

Blog posts really don’t seem like a job anymore. It doesn’t cause me three hours of my life and a whole lot of back pain just to sit and write a 400 word article. Finally, they are easy and best of all, they are interesting. Like this one, 587 words already and it took barely 10 minutes. I don’t care if it’s not in my keyword niche. I don’t care if it doesn’t make any money. I like it, so THERE.

One night watching Britain’s Next Top Model (Yes, I’ve gone through ever single episode of America’s Next Top Model so Britain’s was the only episodes left unwatched), I realized what I really like about each episode. It wasn’t the modeling or the fashion world, it was the photography and obscure posing. I loved the way the photographer captured stunning, amazing high fashion photos with just a click of the camera. The beauty of it just astounds me.

Photography has been a love of mine for a long time. Ever since I got my first little Nikon camera, I have been testing out angles and photographing creative lines and shapes in nature. This is truly more than my interest, it my passion. So why not write about it?

The first time I sat down at the keyboard to write about fashion photography, I cranked out 3000 words on autopilot. I thought of everything I knew and loved about the topic and the words just spilled out.

I had found my blog topic.

There is nothing I could write about more passionately than fashion photography, the camera, photography techniques and everything that went along with it.

So here I am, my first post. I hope in this blog to provide you (my readers) with everything I see and love in photography. As well, I hope to give you some random posts also that are completely obscure. Why? You ask. Because this blog is MINE and I CAN.
